A stone floor can be a great investment. A stone floor looks great and can last for a long time if you know how to take proper care of it.

Thing #1: Dust Mop Frequently

First, you need to dust mop frequently. A dust mop is also frequently called a dry mop. It has a soft surface like a mop and usually is flat. You can pull it across the floor like a mop to pick up dirt, instead of having to sweep the floor with a broom. The dirt clings to the microfiber cloth on the end of the mop, which you can wash and reuse.

A dust mop is more effective at picking up dirt than a broom, which often just moves dirt around.

Thing #2: Clean Up Stains Right Away

Second, when you spill something on your stone floor, don't just let it sit there. Acid-based cleaners will cut through your stone, making it stained with what looks like water. Don't damage the surface of your stone floor with acids.

Thing #4: Avoid Abrasive Cleaners

You also need to be careful with anything that is abrasive. Any cleaners that have texture to them, as well as any scrub brush that could be too rough. The best thing to clean with is some simple soap that doesn't contain any acid or abrasive elements as well.

Thing #5: Be Careful With Vacuum Cleaners

You can use a vacuum cleaner on your stone floor; you need to be careful. You don't want to use a vacuum cleaner that has any plastic wheels or attachments that could scratch up your floor. If the vacuum cleaner has a soft felt bottom, you can use it. Be very careful with the use of a vacuum cleaner on your stone floor.

With a stone floor, you want to dust mop frequently, clean up stains right away, and use soft, gentle cleaners when you mop.
